CHC30108 – Certificate III in Community Services Work

The Certificate III in Community Services Work, is a broad-based qualification with a focus on either community services work or community development work. Some occupational titles or employment opportunities may include:
- Community care worker
- Client contact worker
- Support worker
- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community development worker
- Neighbourhood centre worker or a Youth worker
- Community care worker or a Residential support worker
- Youth housing support worker
- Indigenous youth worker or an intake and referral worker (Aboriginal)
- Youth case worker or a Juvenile Justice court officer or a Juvenile Justice officer
There are 13 units of competency within this qualification. There are eight compulsory units, plus five electives from the Community Services Training Package (CHC08).

Qualification issued
On the successful assessment results of all the 13 units of competency you will be issued with the qualification CHC30108 Certificate III in Community Services Work.
For partial completion of this qualification, you will be issued with a Statement of Attainment indicating completed Units of Competency. Where applicable, Statement of Attainment will state the status of “Employability Skills.”
Further study pathway
The Certificate IV in Community Services is the next pathway. Alternatively, some skills and knowledge are transferable across these three sectors at Certificate IIII and IV levels. These three sectors include:
- Aged care
- Home and Community Care
- Disability
Who can undertake the training?
Students must be at least 18 years of age.
Students are required to be competent in written and spoken English and will undertake a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy test prior to commencing the training.
Places in the training and assessment program are for workers currently employed as a Money Management Worker (MMW) funded by The Department of Family and Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs FaHCSIA.

How often do the courses run and what is their duration?
Courses are run regularly throughout the year. Please refer to Matrix on Board Training Course Timetable for exact course dates.
Normal operating hours are: between the hours of 9am and 5pm.
The training and assessment comprises a total 20 days of face to face running in 5 x 4 consecutive days blocks of training over five (5) months.
How is the course trained and assessed?
Training and assessment will take place in Matrix on Board Training, training rooms by a qualified Trainer monitoring your progress.
The course is delivered with both theory and practical elements and is completed via a simulated work environment. The delivery of training will include a mixture of classroom delivery, online mentor support, workplace on the job.
Assessment is used to provide you with feedback on your progress and to measure your skills and knowledge against the training qualification requirements and those of the industry. The assessment process will include written and practical presentations, observation and classroom participation and will require some time away from the training rooms completing assignments and self-paced exercises.
How much will it cost?
There are no fees and charges associated with places in the training and assessment program, as the training and assessment is funded by (FaHCSIA).
Other fees
For re- issuance of Certificates and Statements of Attainments the student will be charged ($30.00) per document required. Payment for the re-issuance of such documents is required prior to the re-issuance occurring by Matrix on Board Training.
