Social enterprise is a growing part of the Australian economy and, even better, a highly effective means to make a positive and sustainable impact on communities. Matrix on Board supports social enterprises with Financial Management, Management Support and Training & Development services.
One of Matrix on Board’s partners, Social Traders, is a social enterprise development company working to ‘support the development of viable social enterprises by improving access to finance and markets’. Not sure exactly what makes an enterprise a social enterprise? Social Traders have a great ‘Social Enterprise Typology’ on their website.
We want to highlight two especially exciting initiatives that Social Traders are currently working on: Building Social Enterprise Trading Turnover and The Crunch.
Building Social Enterprise Trading Turnover, BSETT, is Social Traders’ response to the unique challenges faced by social enterprises. The program offers brokerage funds, mentorship in development and implementation of marketing strategies, pro bono expertise and support for selling in new markets over the course of 18 months to participating enterprises.
The Crunch is new from Social Traders this year and is based on the UK’s highly successful Spark Challenge. The program matches nine of Australia’s leading corporate organisations with nine growing, Victorian-based social enterprises. After developing a business plan, they pitch it for a share in the $1 million Social Enterprise Development Fund.
